Leaving Budapest proved interesting; the signage was less than ept, and after several missed turns we decided to strike out on our own way going south down the island of Csepelsziget. We had some pretty mediocre hamburgers in Ráckeve, but at least they had free Wi-Fi so that we could check on hotel possibilities later that night. We passed some really nice summer cottages in the town of Dömsöd, and continued downstream until we crossed the river at Dunaföldvár, where we had a big dinner and I managed to accidentally tip 40% by confusing my Hungarian numbers. We were feeling fine, so instead of our planned stop we pressed on to Paks. But as so often has happened at the day’s end on this trip, we ran into problems. Our esteemed guidebook said to take the main road the 5 miles into town…except the main road had a sign prohibiting bicycles. We tried a side road for a couple of miles, which entailed a not very nice climb, only to dump us back onto the main road again. By this point, we decided to chance it, and made it into our hotel just about nightfall.
