We had quite the late start today…because we could. The breakfast was simply a croissant, coffee, and a yoghurt drink, so after taking our laundry to a place nearby we wandered down the street to another cafe and had a bit more substantial breakfast than our first one. We ventured up to the Republic Square area, then decided we needed more caffeine, and found another pedestrian area to chill in. Our search for a stop for the “hop-on/hop-off” city bus tour was longer than intended because the initials for Park and Square are off by one, and we went to the former when the stop was at the latter. After getting that straightened out – and getting John some ice cream – we found the stop and waited. And waited. And waited. After almost 45 minutes (“buses every half hour”) we walked up the street to the main tourist office, who told us that that bus service hadn’t begun yet. So instead we walked to the big park, I added to my hat collection (and got my SIM card working!), then we picked up our laundry and came back to the hotel to rest. That evening we walked through Skadarlija, a charming, sloped cobblestone street that is lined with restaurants, and then up to the Church of St. Sava, the largest Orthodox church in the world. It is not yet complete, and, unfortunately, it was surrounded with scaffolding, so it didn’t make a very good photograph subject. The park around the church had lots of benches, every one of which had a young couple enthusiastically enjoying each other’s company. We went back down to Skadarlija and had drinks at The Travelling Actor. I had initially wanted to stay here for the name alone, but I am glad we didn’t: the competing folks bands at all the restaurants would have made sleep pretty impossible. We watched Poland tie up Russia in their Euro2012 match, then went back and crashed.
